The Leavens Family

Lemons

How we got here.

Our great, great grandfather came to Santa Paula in 1900, and he first worked in a dry goods store. The family actively began farming this land in the 1940s, and expanded into citrus in the ’60s.

The next generation.

There are about 50 in the extended family now, but just three of us actively involved in farming.  It’s important that we build the relationships, not just for our generation, but for future generations, because they are going to take over after us. We mostly talk to them about the land, and how to care for it for years ahead. This beautiful land is the legacy we have received, and we want to pass it on to good hands.

What I love about being a Sunkist grower.

Hard work. Love of family. Learning and passing these values on to next generations. Farming is the way you live, not just the job you do. When you’re up in the middle of the night doing frost control, worrying about the Santa Ana winds that may be blowing or brushfires coming, it really becomes your entire life. It’s how you live your life.
